Just posted on February 24, 2011, a new study published yesterday in the journal Lancet finds that traffic and air pollution account for nearly 12 percent of heart attacks worldwide. In comparison, cocaine use accounts for less than 1 percent.

- Whether your concern is your home or office, if you suffer from allergies, constant or frequent headaches, asthma, visual mold or smell of mold, or even if you find you have to dust too often, then you need a State Licensed Air Conditioning Contractor to clean your air system and air ducts. By Florida State Law Opening the Air Handler or Disassembly of the Air Systems require a State Licensed Air Conditioning or Mechanical Contractor.
- The EPA states;
” In the last several years, a growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within homes and other buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities. Other research indicates that people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors. Thus, for many people, the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than outdoors.”
- It has also been concluded that 50 percent of all illnesses are either caused by, or aggravated by, polluted indoor air. Even in new homes and offices there is as much dust if not more due to construction activity as compared to older homes or offices.
- Over time, pollutants, mold and bacteria from dirt, pollen, tobacco smoke, and pet hair collect in the ductwork of your home’s heating and cooling system. Every time your furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump runs, these potentially hazardous particles blow through the vents and spew into the air that your family breathes. It’s UNSANITARY and UNHEALTHY.
Reasons to Clean Air Ducts?
- Cleaning your air ducts reduces household allergens.
- It eliminates harmful molds and other pollutants.
- A clean system is more energy efficient.
- A clean system may require less maintenance.
- A clean system will not fail prematurely.
- Cleaning reduces the frequency of dusting.
- Not only will you breathe cleaner air, you can increase the amount of air flow reducing your electric bills.
- Studies have shown that polluted air in your home can cause or increase sickness
Information to help you make an informed decision about air duct cleaning.
- Use only Companies that use HEPA filtered Vacuums, not small “shop” type vacuums with a hose and brush on the end of the hose. The vacuum should have a minimal of 2,300 CFMs vacuum power. The MORE CFMs, the better cleaning
you will get. - Only use companies that are Florida State Licensed Air Conditioning and/or Mechanical Contractors to assure that the system is properly and legally cleaned by competent and trained personnel. Disassembly of Air Conditioning or Heating systems by non-licensed “Duct Cleaners” is ILLEGAL, dangerous and could be could be damaging to your air system.Ask whoever is going to clean your air system that they provide proof of their Florida A/C or Mechanical Contractor’s License.
- Just cleaning the Air Ducts is not enough! As a licensed Air Conditioning Contractor, cleaning is required in the interior of the air handler, coils, blower fan is disassembled and clean, and treat the interior of the air handler with an EPA registered sanitizer approved for use in air systems.
Cleaning the vents will not eliminate the dust and pollutants in your home. In order to clean the system completely we must clean the returns (where the air flows into the system), and the blower units as well. Otherwise your vents will become dirty again as soon as you run air through them. - In some cases, depending on your Home’s or Office’s situation and use, allergies, the elderly, etc., the company should provide you with recommendations to improve and control your indoor environment.
- Air filters promptly after we clean your system and then replace as
needed on a regular basis. - Some houses and offices may require more frequent changing of filters, specially designed filters, or a special filtration system installed due to the families with allergies, sensitivity to air pollution (dust, mold, mildew, etc), respiratory illnesses, number of pets, dirt, and foot traffic.
- In order to minimize a re-occurrence of contaminates in your air system, the company that cleans your air ducts, should have a legal State Air Conditioning Contractor’s Business License to have the ability to provide additional indoor environmental services and installation of products such as fresh air units, dehumidifiers, whole house HEPA units, or other special IAQ equipment depending on your particular situation and construction of home or
building.
